Support our Grand Award Winners!

Support Maine students as they share their scientific research at the International Science & Engineering Fair! Maine State Science Fair grand award winners Ryan Werthmann (Falmouth), Zelda Anesko (Brunswick), and Sofie Rueter (Bangor) have the opportunity to present their work alongside youth from around the world this May in Columbus, OH. Your donation, which will be directed by Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA) to offset ISEF expenses, will help cover their travel costs for this amazing five-day event! Your donation will be acknowledged with a receipt from MMSA.

Ryan Werthmann

Falmouth High School

Ryan’s project, entitled A Data-Driven Exploration of Albumin-Creatinine Ratio as a Biomarker for Myocardial Infarction Risk: A Multivariate Analysis, used data science to study the connection between the results of a blood test typically used to detect kidney disease and a patient’s risk for having a heart attack.

Zelda Anesko

Brunswick High School

Zelda Anesko of Brunswick

Zelda’s project, entitled A Computer Model for Efficient Offshore Wind Farm Siting in the North Atlantic, developed a computer program that combined data including wind density, shipping routes, and Canadian and U.S. ports, and industry metrics to identify key locations for offshore wind farms in the Atlantic.

Sofie Rueter

Bangor High School

Sofie’s project, entitled Improving the Effectivity of Nitrate Removal in Biosand Filters Using N. oculata, sought to improve biosand filters used to purify drinking water in rural or developing communities. By adding a microalgae to the filter, Sofie demonstrated a method of removing more nitrogen from the water.

Thank you for your support!
